Daido DC53 Refined Cold-Work Tool Steel

Daido DC53 Refined Cold-Work Tool Steel is a reference entry for industrial cutting tools and blades. The composition, hardness, heat treatment and application guidance are summarised below for engineering reference.
Standard composition: C 0.90–1.00 %, Cr 7.50–8.50 %, Mo 1.80–2.20 %, V 0.20–0.50 %, Mn 0.20–0.50 %, Si 0.80–1.20 %, balance Fe
Hardness: Annealed HB 220–250; hardened HRC 60–62
Heat treatment: Austenitise 1,030–1,050 °C, gas or oil cool, double temper 520–540 °C
Properties: A proprietary Daido refinement of SKD11 with finer carbides, higher toughness (~ 1.5–2× SKD11 at the same hardness), and better machinability. Often the right answer for chipping-prone thin blades where SKD11 chips.
Applications: Precision thin slitter blades, shear blades on thick plate, crusher blades, granulator bed knives, plastic moulds.
