AISI H13 Hot-Work Tool Steel

AISI H13 Hot-Work Tool Steel is a reference entry for industrial cutting tools and blades. The composition, hardness, heat treatment and application guidance are summarised below for engineering reference.

Standard composition: C 0.32–0.45 %, Cr 4.75–5.50 %, Mo 1.10–1.75 %, V 0.80–1.20 %, Mn 0.20–0.50 %, Si 0.80–1.25 %, balance Fe

Hardness: Annealed HB 192–229; hardened HRC 48–54

Heat treatment: Austenitise 1,000–1,050 °C, air or oil cool, double temper 550–620 °C

Properties: The standard hot-work tool steel. Excellent hot hardness up to ~ 600 °C. Tough enough for high-impact applications. Secondary hardening at 510–540 °C. The most widely used tool steel for die casting and hot shear.

Applications: Hot shear blades, die-casting dies and inserts, hot forging dies, extrusion tooling.
