undefined — Industry Glossary Entry
Definition of nose radius in industrial cutting: the radius at the corner of a punch, drill, or specialised blade edge.
undefined is the small radius at the corner of a cutting edge, typically on punches, drills, end mills, and some specialised blade geometries. On a standard slitter or shear blade, the “nose radius” is the same as the hone radius.
Nose radius on a slitter
On a circular slitter, the hone and the chamfer are both “radii” on the edge, but “nose radius” usually refers to a 3D-radiused edge (e.g. on a form tool or a punch). For a standard slitter knife, use “hone” for the micro-radius and “chamfer” for the larger secondary radius.
