Definition of primary bevel in industrial cutting: the first angled face behind the cutting edge, typically the largest relief face on a shear blade or slitter knife.

undefined is the first angled face behind the cutting edge, typically the largest relief face. On a paper slitter, the primary bevel is the back face that provides the 18โ€“22ยฐ clearance. On a plate shear, the primary bevel is the chamfer on the back face (0.05โ€“0.30 mm depending on plate thickness).

Primary vs secondary bevel

A primary bevel is the largest relief behind the edge. A secondary bevel, if present, is a smaller face behind the primary. Most industrial slitter and shear blades have only a primary bevel. Compound bevels (two or more) are used in woodworking and metalworking turning tools but rarely in industrial cutting blades.
