Definition of TiAlN (Titanium Aluminium Nitride) PVD coating for industrial blades: a violet-black high-temperature coating for hot-work and foil slitting applications.

undefined Titanium Aluminium Nitride (TiAlN) is a PVD ceramic coating, violet-black, with excellent high-temperature hardness (HRC 60+ at 700 °C). Applied at 400–500 °C, 2–4 µm thick. The aluminium forms a stable oxide layer at high temperature that prevents the coating from breaking down.

When to use

  • Foil slitting (aluminium, copper) at high speed
  • Tissue slitting > 1,200 m/min
  • Hot-work cutting (die casting, hot piercing)
  • High-temperature applications where the edge temperature exceeds 500 °C

When NOT to use

  • On impact-loaded granulator rotors (chipping)
  • On food-contact cutting (colour)
  • At room-temperature cutting where TiN is enough and cheaper
